Others may have to fill me in a little about the details of this case, although it is obviously yet another incidence of sexual abuse within the JW world. Also, two different congregations appear to have been involved?
Reading through all the legalese, it appears from the above notes that:
1) The WTS attempted to gain a "summary judgement motion / motion for summary adjudication" by claiming that there was no "triable issue of fact" involved.
2) As a consequence, the civil case will proceed against the WTS on 09/15/2017.
Please feel free to correct me if I am wrong, or fill in any details I may have missed!

Well it didn't take long for this post to get hijacked
Sadly, you are quite correct!
Chemo and radiation are the only 'cures' that actually make the patient sicker ??????
At the end of last year, my wife had to have a course of radiation therapy, every day for five consecutive days. While this left her feeling tired, she suffered no ill effects whatsoever. Furthermore, this treatment was effective.
Beforehand, my wife was effectively paralysed when a tumour developed in her hip joint (imagine the very worst case of sciatica, then multiply it by at least five!) Within weeks of receiving radiation therapy, she regained full mobility. Furthermore, between that and the hormone therapy she remains on, this tumour is gradually shrinking.
Having a daughter who is now an accredited nutritionist, my wife is also into the "juicing and dieting" approach as well as conventional medicine. From what I have seen, the juices she uses are harmless enough, and they actually taste okay into the bargain! Likewise for the diet my wife now follows (giving up the use of cane sugar is not going to harm anyone).
Such measures may well have their place - but as a supplement to conventional medicine, not as a replacement.
to those on these forums who are christian and or to those who believe in the god of the old testament; how does one overcome many of the questionable actions god took or allowed to happen in the old testament?.
many if not most of us have heard of criticisms of the god of the old testament.
you can find these criticisms on many websites.. how do you explain to an honest hearted person why god acted the way they did?.
David_J,
Thanks for your interesting posts explaining things from the Jewish perspective i.e. that of the writers of the Old Testament.
What we are talking about here is the overall matter of "Spirituality" - which certainly includes, but is not limited to, religion / worship. The "spiritual" does not have to make rational sense; perhaps even in most instances it never does. However, as you have described, that in itself need not be a problem.
All the more reason, though, not to allow oneself to get too bent out of shape over the matter of religion! When I first agreed to the offer of what the JWs call a "Free Home Bible Study", certain others tried to warn me that, to quote "Religion is all-right, but in its place". Sadly, it took me a long time to wake up to what they were warning me about!
I have just finished reading Janina Bauman's Beyond these Walls. In that work, she, too, said very much the same as you did in the way the Jewish religion defines a people culturally. (Their family was not "practising" in its faith, considered themselves to be patriotic Polish citizens, yet still identified with their Jewish culture).
PS: I for one appreciate your posts, which have re-introduced a depth of discussion to this board, of a type not seen here for some time.
alright.... so in another thread, most of us have been counseled for some lame stuff, and the responses range from funny to shocking.. now, let's focus on you giving counsel to others.
come on, don't be shy!.
i'll begin:.
This happened while I was a teenage boy, whose knowledge about the opposite sex could have been written on the back of a postage stamp with a felt-tipped pen.
I was conducting a "Home Bible Study" with another teenage boy (slightly younger than me), when the subject came up about girls, dating, marriage and what the WTS's rules were about such things. Well, I did attempt to explain to him what I thought (and the operative word here is "thought") I knew about such matters.
Bloody Hell ! If there is one thing more bizarre than "The Blind Leading the Blind", it would have to be a blind man being led around by another guy who doesn't even realize just how blind he himself is!
i had given serious consideration too leaving the board.
i rationalised my views on " muslims" we're not held by the majority so i should leave.
but this would have been wrong thinking, instead i should appreciate the platform i was given to debate with free speech.
Nancy Drew,
After finally breaking away from the JWs, I went through a period (which lasted for quite a number of years) in which " if I felt it, I said it " - and in no uncertain terms! ( e.g. liberally using all the "F" and "B" Words anywhere and at any time, making rude gestures at other drivers when they either did something wrong or otherwise just annoyed me, etc. etc. etc.).
At the time, I thought that this was being therapeutic; i.e. a way of releasing frustration after having been repressed for too long. Now I am more inclined to believe it was part of the process of learning. Learning how to "hit the happy medium" in dealing with the real world (rather than a make believe world).
These days, I try to state my opinions in a respectful manner, particularly when disagreeing with another.
One definition of the art of diplomacy reads as follows:
The ability to tell someone to "Go To Hell" in such a manner that they actually look forward to the journey!
This is the knack that I am working on!

I have never seen it satisfactorily explained; furthermore, I don't I expect I ever will, either!
